Women in Medicine Cocktail Evening 2017

women_in_medicine_2017

This years Women in Medicine Cocktail Evening was held on Saturday 26th August and saw over 100 medical students, staff and members from the community attend.  The night was a huge success in celebrating women in Medicine and highlighting different options available to individuals wishing to pursue medicine and the different paths that can be taken to get there.

On the night, 4 female doctors, including a pediatrician, rural generalist, general practitioner and previous medical director for US Survivor inspired us as they spoke about their journey through medicine, the challenges they have faced and what they have learnt from these. In between speeches, those attending the event had the opportunity to socialise with the speakers and ask them questions.

In addition to the many kitchen items donated leading up to the event, on the night $740.65 was raised for the Armidale Women’s Shelter.  2017 was the second time this event was run and we are excited to watch this event grow within our own medical cohort and the wider community in the future.

Check out some of our photos from the night!

Women in Medicine Cocktail Evening 2016

The purpose of this event is to celebrate women in Medicine as well as to highlight the different options available to all individuals wishing to pursue medicine and the different paths that can be taken to get there.

The event is open not only to medical students from the University of New England but all members of the community. We’ve previously had four female speakers from various fields and at different stages of their career. In between speeches, those attending the event have the opportunity to socialise with the speakers enabling them to ask any questions they may have.

2016 saw 80 people attend our inaugural event with great feedback and enthusiasm for the future, we are excited to watch this event grow within our own medical student cohort and wider medical community.
